Today I had my very first official interview with an organization. I applied for the Software Developer role of the company. I want to take notes about the interview for my future reference:

I had scope to know about the company, how they are working now. What to expect about the working day routine. I answered few questions from the Tech lead. Few questions that I remember was these:

  1. What do I understand by the Business automation system?
  2. How will I approach error handling from the client's point of view?
  3. How will I approach error handling from the developer's point of view?
  4. some question related to security
  5. some question I don't remember but I remember the answer I gave
  6. some routine questions: like telling us about the time managing a conflicting situation
  7. a time when I faced a problem and solved it, how did I solve it
  8. any experience that was hard for me how did I solve it(not the exact words.. I forgot the question)
  9. what is my background? what will I bring to the company? what will I have from the company?

So these were kinda few questions that I faced today.

The first thing I remember that I did wrong is not asking for elaborating the question that I didn’t understand. Answering randomly is not good at all. I should have asked them to clarify the question to me again.

After understanding the question, I should answer honestly. People can read attitude. So If I don’t know something, I will accept that and will learn about that if needed. Never ever throw an answer blindly. It is bad.

I don’t feel like I did enough research about the company prior to the interview. Which is not helpful to me at all. I am understanding it now because I already have faced a situation of how it feels like to not knowing enough to face the question. There is no term named over-prepared, but people can be under-prepared. To avoid that situation, I need to read the words of the circular carefully cause, it includes all the key points for interview questions. Those key points and doing research about the company and the post will help to prepare for the questions.

Self-confidence is the most important part here. There are few random questions for this that we all know. But it seems very hard to answer those questions. But it is not impossible. Few attempts of writing down the answers will give the scope of reading it and refine it until it sounds great to my own ear.

Improving the skill to be confident on the interview board is not magic. It requires a long time of practice, observation, and keep working on improving myself based on the observation. It is possible.

I felt like an empty vase after the Interview. I will improve so this feeling never comes back again.
